Police shot and killed a man who stabbed an officer in Pittsburgh's Brighton Heights neighborhood on Friday morning, authorities said.

The man was killed in the police shooting around 6 a.m. on Friday after officers were called to a home on Carpenter Lane for a domestic disturbance, authorities said

According to the Allegheny County Police Department, just before 4 a.m., officers with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police were called to Carpenter Lane for a domestic disturbance, and one of the people involved was taken to court to file an emergency protection-from-abuse order.

Then, just before 6 a.m., police returned to the home to serve the order. Officials said once police were inside, a man approached an officer with a knife and stabbed them. Another officer fired multiple shots, killing the man, authorities said.

Police confirmed that the man who was shot was the same person identified in the order. The man has not been identified as of Friday night.

The officer who was stabbed was treated at the scene for minor injuries, officials said.

Pittsburgh Public Safety says the shooting is being investigated by the Allegheny County Police Department. The two officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave.

"There have been other shootings up here, but this was in someone's house, somebody's partner," neighbor Patty McGivern said. "That makes it much, much worse."

She said she was shocked to learn who was involved.

"It was always quiet down there," McGivern said. "Those two were always out, sitting on the porch. There were never any kind of disturbances."

Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
